Section titled “Getting started”- Install: Put FRIZZ on your CHOMPI, update it, and go back to stock firmware.
- Quick start: Your levels, your first loop and your first effects, in ten minutes.
- Overview: What FRIZZ does, and how this manual names things.
Basics
Section titled “Basics”- Panel: Every control at a glance.
- Playing basics: SHIFT, the pages, the VOLUME knob and what the LEDs say.
Looper and tempo
Section titled “Looper and tempo”- Looper: Record, play and erase a loop, and change its speed.
- Tempo and transport: One tempo for every effect: the loop’s, a MIDI clock’s or tapped.
- Loop loader: Your own loops and TAPE’s recordings from the SD card.
- Playing loops: The Loops and Cubbi pages, and switching between loops.
- Loops and scenes: Loops switched with a scene change, or crossfaded by hand.
Effects
Section titled “Effects”- Sound architecture: From the input through the looper and the effects to the outputs.
- Punch-in FX: Playing the effects on the white keys: hold, latch, select, knobs.
- Freezer: Grabs a slice of what’s playing, from a whole bar down to a 16th, and repeats it while you hold the key. Turn up the roll for a beat repeat’s build-up.
- Shifter: Shifts the pitch in semitones, with big steps at fourths, fifths and octaves. Feedback shifts again on every pass.
- Folder: A wavefolder: past the fold point the signal mirrors back on itself, for bright, gritty overtones.
- Crusher: Fewer bits and a lower sample rate, down to 480 Hz, with a dive on every press.
- Filter: A DJ filter, lowpass one way and highpass the other, with an LFO on the cutoff that follows the tempo.
- Flanger: A swept short delay with feedback: the jet sweep, a chorus, or at the top a vibrato.
- Phaser: Sweeping notches with resonance, free-running or locked to the tempo. Hold SHIFT and tap key 7 twice for its other mode, a frequency shifter.
- Resonator: A tuned comb loop that rings at a note you set. Latch the crusher or the shifter and the ringing goes through them on every pass.
- Slicer: Chops the sound in 16th-note patterns, locked to the tempo.
- Wow & flutter: Tape warble: a slow drift in pitch and the fast wobble of a capstan, with worn tape’s dropouts.
- Tape stop: Winds the tape down to a standstill while you hold the key, and spins it back up when you let go.
- Delay: Echoes in time with the tempo, with random events and shimmer. They keep ringing after you let go.
- Reverb: From a room to a long wash. The tail rings on after you let go.
- Chaos key: Makes no sound of its own: drops your latched effects out at random and scrambles the steps of the loop.
- Finalizer: A master section on key 15: input and drive, a 3-band EQ, compression and width, and a limiter that makes it loud.

Section titled “Scenes and settings”- FX scenes: Your effect settings in 4 scenes, recalled with one key.
- Scene changes in time: Morph, drop or crossfade to a scene in time with the music.
